Colorado Students at Smokey Hill High School Spread the Word

On March 3rd, 2010, Special Olympics Colorado Youth Leader Kelse Johnson organized an r-word campaign at Smokey Hill High School where she encouraged peers to join the Spread the Word to End the Word movement by taking the pledge to remove the r-word from their vocabulary. She helped create awareness about the offensive and hurtful effects that the r-word has on her fellow peers with intellectual disabilities, giving everyone at the school the opportunity to take the pledge by signing a banner. T-shirts, bracelets, buttons, and stickers were given out to all that pledged.
